Somehow I ended up with a project that had no task types. (Tasks did not exist as a task type). I didn’t explicitly try to delete it, so I can’t say why it wasn’t there.
Anyway, if you have a project with no task type and create tasks, those tasks aren’t visible in the project view and, and I was unable to change the view to display all tasks.
When I realized the difficulties I was facing had to do with the task types, I created one called ‘Tasks’ and could change the view to ‘All’ and see the tasks that had no task type. Because the tasks didn’t have a task type, I was unable to change the task type at all (there was no area I could activate to get the combobox) and all of the tasks needed to be deleted and re-created, which was a bit of a pain (less of a pain than wondering why my tasks never showed up).
Suggestions:
All projects should be required to have at least one task type. Based on all of my other projects, they have ‘Tasks’ by default. There may be some place where this rule isn’t appropriately enforced, because I’m not certain how I got in this situation. At task create time, perhaps this state could be validated and/or corrected to avoid ending up with untyped tasks.
In the task info panel, if a task does not have a task type, the control to change the task type should either be visible, or there should be a default ‘no task type’ field that can be clicked to change the task type to something meaningful.
I think this was part of my problems the other day, but there was definitely other badness going on.
Matt

Agreed, that’s a confirmed bug that we had anticipated and evidently still fell prey to.
We’ll get it fixed ASAP.

Okay, the fix has been checked into subversion and will be present in our next rollout.
