Error solution: "Caught exception java.io.IOException: could not open tunnel - failed while connecting to proxy."

This is almost always related to APN settings if you are using a GPRS based service like T-Mobile or Cingular. You should verify that your APN data is set correctly to fix.

o.k. and how would I fix the APN data? I downloaded the trial version. It has a 10 use limit and now 4 of them is gone due to this error!

I followed the instructions and this seems to fix it

I think that I don’t agree. (or is another kind of issue that bothers’ me).
I’m in spain with vodafone, and I’m trying to get working the mentat trial in a bb 8800 with 4.2.( version 1.4 OTA)

my company is billing me the data connection when my Blackberry Plan can do browsing mailing and google stuff.
My question is: Mentat requires a data connection different from BB plan from vodafone?
Because I always receving the Java IOException with my settings.

We’ve been really focused on the new Mentat site update, and have not been as responsive to every forum issue as we’d like to be, but I wanted to make sure you know you are heard.
Unfortunately, we have no control over vodafone in Spain and it appears this is due to something with their APN settings. Normally, with other carriers here, verifying your APN settings with them or from their site fixes the tunneling errors.
Please let us know if they provide you with a solution and we will be sure to keep it posted here for others.
