First off, I like the introductory pricing… Free. That is a great way for somebody to check this thing out. I’m planning to use it for a small project team at my architectural office to keep track of outstanding issues.
I use Firefox 3 and I’ve found the Mentat interface to be kind of klunky and not very intuitive or smooth. I’ve also used Nozbe and I have to say that they have really refined their interface. Theirs is very intuitive, but at the expense of cluttering up the page. There is some sort of fine line between clean and cluttered, and I suppose it is a matter of opinion.
Agenda – I was disappointed to find that it doesn’t fill in automatically. I see the value in being able to make your own priority list, but I’d rather it be able to run automatically. Perhaps you could allow the Agenda to be quickly (automatically) populated based on items assigned to me, priority, due date, etc.
Priority – this is odd. It appears to me that 5 is the highest priority. That goes against most priority list methodologies, i.e. Covey, where 1 is the most important.
I had a few Ajax errors when deleting the initial default projects. Didn’t seem to affect anything—they still deleted.
Username or User Description – I created my account and made a Username, and it also had a field for a longer name (User Description?). I’d like to change that now, but I can’t find a “Preferences” or “Options” area to do that. I see “Account” and I would have assumed I could change that kind of info there.
Follow feature – how does this work? Is it supposed to email me when an item is marked Complete? Hasn’t worked for me yet? Why not have a small table on the Agenda page that tracks all of your “Followed” items in a table. You could then see everything in one glance that was completed (by you or your co-workers) since your last login.
Overall, it shows promise and I look forward to trying it out on a few in-house projects.

I’ve loaded it up at the office using IE7 and again, it is pretty klunky. On the Agenda page, the “Click to create new task” is in a completely different location on the page. When I click on it, there is no cancel option. And when I click somewhere else on the page, that dialog doesn’t go away.
FWIW.

Hi Craig,
Thanks for letting us know your thoughts. Your Agenda will actually automatically add a task at the top when someone else assigns to you, so it works as you suggest in that way. You’ll automatically see something that’s been assigned to you in your Agenda, so you can decide what to do with it.
It’s meant as a way to see what to do that day, so it even has it’s own priorities. The idea is, you might have a task that is a high priority in a project, and need to mark it as such, but might not be able to work on it that day or even that week, so it might not make it into your Agenda for a while.
In your Agenda, the top priority item might be to grab TP on your way home, to make sure you remember, even though relative to your other work and projects that may be a low priority.
Hopefully that gives you a better understanding of the Agenda and its features. It’s a feature that can be very addictive once you start using it.
Mentat is a team focused tool so passing tasks back and forth, and being able to follow team tasks are a big part of it. The follow feature is to let you keep track of tasks that are not your own, but you may want to know the status on. When the task owner changes something, you will see an email about it if you are following.
Mentat is not designed for IE, but should work fine with Firefox or Safari. We have noted that some plugins in Firefox cause problems with other applications javascript, so that may be something to keep in mind.
Keep playing around with it and let us know how it works for you and your team. We’ll also have an update for Mentat coming out this summer too, with lots of improvements and new options!
