I use GTD a lot in my day-to-day life and a lot of Mentat’s design was influenced by this. I’m interested in knowing how people use their tools, particularly Mentat for GTD, and how Mentat could be improved to better support GTD as well.
For instance, I’ve considering making an alternative, 43 folders oriented view for the Agenda page and wonder if anyone else would be interested in having that sort of feature.

Why not draw your idea roughly and see what comments you get?

arn0 – excellent plan. We will do so as soon as we get a little breathing room. Most of our current focus is on some new service features and the BlackBerry client.

How are you guys dealing with Contexts? I find that being able to switch between Context and Project views is the must-have feature for any GTD program I use; I need to be able to plan my next actions in Project view and then, when I am in a given context, attack the doable actions. I’m looking at Mentat principally because the Blackberry support allows me to have the lists I need when I am actually in a given context.

israelmirsky – we’re not ignoring you. We’ve been talking about Contexts here for awhile and are working on a plan that will let us integrate them organically with the Mentat system.
I’m currently thinking about having the Agenda pull double duty as both a short list viewer and a Context aggregator: pick a Context and it will show you all of the tasks related to it.
How does that sound to you?

Contexts are the only thing missing, IMHO. That’s the only remaining piece of the puzzle that I need to go GTD all the way and use Mentat to do it.

I agree with israelmirsky and mawellj72 wholeheartedly – my personal workflow workarounds to address this have met with limited success :)

Well, we’re wrapping up a bit of client work here over the next week and should start breaking ground on context support early next month.
If you have any requests about how this will be done or how it should look, this would be a good time to chime in.

At a minimum, when clicking “create a new task” from the agenda screen opens the data entry field and the drop-down project selector, it would be nice to have either/or for contexts (another entry field or, if we have the ability to define a set of contexts elsewhere in the app, a drop-down that will present those contexts for selection). In my ideal world, contexts would appear to the left of each task’s description entry field.
Similar idea for the task list view from within a project… I’d love to see some way to identify a context for each task on that screen as well (and/or populate it with the context defined for it when the task was created from Agenda view).
The key feature for me would be the ability to sort by context, as I rarely enter specific due dates for tasks.
Thanks again!

any updates on contexts support?

We finished contexts about a week ago and are doing internal testing on them. We will be rolling the out as part of a July 11th site update.
In related news, I’m working on context synchronization for an upcoming Mentat-based iPhone application called Arioso as well.
